Harley Davidson and Harman Kardon silently released Boom!™ Box software update version 1.19.1 in July, 2015. Bikaholics everywhere are wondering if they should update. Well, that is what I have been here for all along. I took the leap of faith for you and tested the update to make sure it does not break more than it fixes like in the past.

I give the green light to update to this new version, 1.19.1. Mostly, because I heavily tested the last update, version 1.19.0, and in this newest version, 1.19.1, only one new item was added to the update list. Other than that it was all the same exact updates/fixes we saw in version 1.19.0 back in May, 2015. Not sure why they came out with a new version for one item? That one new item is labeled as “Road Tech zumo prompts inaudible”.

This update claims to fix the following: (1.19.1)

-High Contrast Day Colors

Issues Fixed:

Road Tech zumo prompts inaudible (Only new item for this update)(Below items were all in version 1.19.0)
AVC inoperable until the first time it is adjusted
Radio does not switch between units properly
Volume adjustment from hand controls does not function
Presets do not recall correct station/media
Radio remains “off” after engine crank
Address field cannot be edited
Radio stuck on splash screen/accept screen
Temperature between C & F inaccurate
WB seek up/down broken after ignition cycle
Radio system stays on after shutdown for an extended period
Traffic Announcements not working
AM/FM Reception missing strong stations on seek
Media not playing after ignition cycle
Brazil dealerships missing
Performance and stability enhancements

Video-So, if you ride often and ride far in all weather and temperatures like we do here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media then you will eventually get a rock chip or deep scratch in the paint of your Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The first thing you need to do is breath and accept the fact that these things can and will happen.

Of course Harley sells paint touch up kits with your factory matched paint color and a clear coat and I paid around $38. Frustrating is that these Harley paint touch up kits come with absolutely no instructions on application whatsoever!

I have talked to quite a few different friends that work at Harley Davidson Dealerships over the years and they all have their own techniques for using and applying touch up paint. In this video I use the technique that makes the most sense for the average day-to-day biker and that actually works.

Remember, if you are looking for perfection then you are starting out with the wrong mind-set. Nothing is as perfect as the factory Harley paint job. What we are trying to do with touch up paint is make a blemish a little less noticeable. If you go into painting your scratch or rock chip with patience and understanding then you will have a good outcome.

I have a different year Ultra classic FLHTC. Will this video help me? My kit number was HD 53303-07 and wire kit 70113-08.

Answer: Yes, the video will help you, but the kits are different. This video was made installing Harley kit # 53000291, which is an HD Detachable Tour Pak Conversion Kit for '14 and later models. It includes lights and the license plate mount because the '14 and newer Ultra Limited's incorporated those items into the OEM trunk and mount. When you remove your trunk you loose your rear lighting and license plate. So, the '14 and newer kit places the lighting and license plate in an alternate area.

PODCAST & VIDEO-In this video Lurch and I ride to the Rattlesnake Mountain Harley-Davidson dealership at 3305 W 19th Ave, Kennewick, WA 99338. Lurch has a plan to trade in his 2008 Harley Street Glide for a 2015 Harley Road Glide Special. Although I have always personally liked the look of the batwing style fairing on the Street Glide models, Harley has re-designed the shark nose fairing on the 2015 Road Glide models and I like the new look much better.

Lurch and his 2015 Road Glide

Lurch is 6 foot 6 inches tall, so because of the fixed fairing (does not turn with the handlebars) we will be able to install 13″ ape handlebars and push them forward farther. This will give Lurch a more stretched out and comfortable riding position. The bars can not be pushed as far forward on the Street Glide, because of the different fairing that turns with the bars.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ISSUES SADDLEBAG RECALL-NHTSA RECALL CAMPAING NUMBER 15V-427

I had this recall completed and it took literally 5 minutes. Dealerships are just replacing the 4 (2 on each side) saddle bag pin retaining clips. Each dealership was sent a large bag(s) of the appropriate clips (saddlebag mounting receptacles).

Recall Info:

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company issued a recall stating that the saddlebag mounting receptacle, p/n 10900009 on some model year 2014 and 2015 Touring family vehicles may not adequately secure the saddlebag to the motorcycle during use.

Safety Risk

If this condition remains undetected, the saddlebag may become separated from the motorcycle while it is in motion, possibly creating a hazard for other motorists.

REMEDY

Owners of the affected motorcycles will be asked to arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, who will confirm that the motorcycle is covered by this recall. If covered, the dealer will install the updated receptacle from the recall kit provided. This service will be provided at no charge to the customer. We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.
