Why the Alpinestars CR-X Drystar Shoes Stand Out
Unmatched Comfort for Daily Use
The first thing you’ll notice about the CR-X Drystar is simple: it’s unbelievably comfortable. These feel more like your favorite pair of trail running shoes than motorcycle footwear. I wear them around the Law Abiding Biker Store daily, and half the time I forget I'm even in riding shoes.
Why are they so comfortable?
-
Trail-running inspired design
-
Multi-compound sole with excellent flexibility
-
Extremely lightweight construction
-
Soft, flexible Achilles panel
-
Ortholite removable inner sole
This is absolutely the lightest and most flexible shoe we offer. Straight out of the box, flexibility is around a 3 out of 10.
These aren’t stiff touring boots—and they’re not meant to be. They shine as a commuter shoe, an urban riding shoe, or a “ride to a hike or walk around town” shoe.
Construction & Materials
Breathable, Lightweight Outer Shell
The outer shell is made from breathable mesh combined with a TPR (thermoplastic rubber) screened overlay. The result?
-
Lightweight feel
-
Excellent airflow for hot-weather riding
-
High flexibility
-
Comfortable off the bike for walking or hiking
This is a fantastic summer riding shoe, but thanks to Alpinestars' Drystar membrane (waterproof), it’s far more versatile than your average mesh sneaker-style boot.

Protection Features: What You Get (and What You Don’t)
Let’s be honest—these are NOT our most protective riding shoes. If you’re heading out on multi-day cross-country touring, like our 12-day Canada ride, you'd want something like:
-
Icon Stormhawk Boot (much more robust protection + waterproof)
-
Icon Patrol 3 Boot (still flexible but better suited for long hours in the saddle)
That said, the CR-X Drystar still offers important protection for a lightweight shoe:
Toe Reinforcement
A reinforced toe box provides basic protection, though less substantial compared to our heavier touring boots.
Reinforced Heel Cup
A synthetic leather heel counter provides better-than-expected support and rigidity. This is one of the areas where the CR-X outperforms many lightweight shoes.
Ankle Protection
-
External ankle disk on the outside of the shoe
-
Internal padding sewn inside the medial side
Provides moderate ankle protection appropriate for a commuter shoe.
Shift Pad
Both shoes include a built-in shifter panel to prevent unnecessary wear—something not all lightweight shoes include.
Reflective Elements
Subtle but effective:
-
Reflective logo at the heel
-
Reflective material along both sides
These really help with visibility for night commuting.

Waterproofing: Drystar Performance
The “Drystar” name means exactly what it says: these shoes are fully waterproof thanks to Alpinestars' proven membrane system.
Features include:
-
Waterproof Drystar layer
-
Integrated gutters to keep water from pooling
-
Coverage up to the top eyelet level
Are they waterproof enough for light to moderate riding in rain? Absolutely.
Are they ideal for sustained long-distance heavy rain?
No—this is where true touring boots like the Stormhawk or Patrol 3 excel.
But for commuting, around-town riding, or as a general-purpose riding shoe, the Drystar waterproofing works exceptionally well.
Interior Construction
The inside is designed around comfort and breathability:
-
3D breathable mesh lining
-
Ortholite removable insole
-
CE TPU certified sole plate for midsole rigidity and protection
This combination keeps feet cool and comfortable, even when walking or hiking off the bike.

Closure System: Speed Laces + Velcro Strap
Speed Lace System
Pull to tighten, push two buttons to release. Quick and convenient.
Velcro Top Strap
Secures excess lace and adds ankle stability.
Note:
The laces are a bit long. It works fine thanks to the Velcro stowing system, but a shorter lace would be appreciated in future versions.
Sizing & Color Options
Sizing
Very true to size.
I'm normally a 9.5–10, and the size 10 fits comfortably. I could have easily worn a 9.5.
Tip:
Try them in your house first—if they don’t fit and the tags are still on, we’ll exchange them. That’s how we take care of bikers.
Colors
We currently offer four color options. Visit the Law Abiding Biker Store to see what's available now.
