Harley Davidson and Harman Kardon just released Boom!™ Box software update version 1.20.3 in January of 2017. There are just some small behind the scenes fixes to version 1.20.2 that was released on October 17, 2016. Many of you know, HD pulled 1.20.2 shortly after release as some bikers were having problems. It's all fixed in 1.20.3 now, we hope.

We have received many inquiries from bikers asking if they should update to this latest version. It is always a good idea to wait and see if an update fixes more than it breaks and let me have some time to test things.

Note: This particular update if for the Boom Box 4.3 Standard, 6.5T Premium, and the CVO 6.5GT systems. I give the go ahead to update to this new Boom Box software update version, 1.20.3.

I installed and tested this software update for you. As usual, don't expect any miracles and that suddenly all things will be fixed for ever user. They still have a long way to go to get rid of all the problems that persist with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. We are all skeptical that they'll ever get the Boom Box working perfectly at this point.

Install Harley 7-pin DIN Audio & Communications Kit/Plug & Learn What Headsets Will Work With the Boom Box

Question: If I get behind on updating my Boom Box software, will I have to go back and install each past update I missed?

Answer: No, you do not have to update incrementally. If you get behind, just grab the latest software update here and install it. It will update everything you need including past updates. There is no access to the older updates from the Harley website anyways.

Remember; The Harley Boom!™ Box still has many annoying bugs and problems, so don't expect this software update to suddenly fix everything.

This update claims to fix the following: (1.20.3)

Fixes:

Radio stuck in OFF mode on start up in certain instances.
Radio goes to OFF mode when is USB removed during start
up in certain instances.
Various fixes for blank or frozen screen issues during
operation in certain instances.
Various bug fixes.

Video-Drayko Drift Motorcycle Protective Riding Jeans-Biker Review & Test

Video-Many of you Bikaholics out there wear traditional leather chaps to protect your legs from the elements and to give you some limited protection if you were to go down. There is nothing wrong with chaps if that's how you choose to roll. I just don't like the inconvenience of taking them on and off, the bulkiness, and weight.

I am a rather progressive biker when it comes to equipment and I'm always looking for better things. Especially, things that have style to them and can protect me better than old school traditional motorcycle cruiser gear.

There are an array of companies now making protective riding jeans. They vary in the protective materials they use and in price. These jeans offer protection from the elements and offer so much more protection than chaps if you were to go down on your motorcycle.

In this video, I am focusing on the Drayko Drift Riding Jeans. The Drift from Drayko are low-rise, relaxed fit riding jeans made with Military+ Grade DuPont™ Kevlar® and DSM Dyneema®, The World's Strongest Fiber. Drayko Drift jeans have Kevlar panels in key areas such as the knees, hips, and seat area that need protection if you go down. In contrast, jeans such as Rokker Red Selvage Jeans, have a protective layer of 100% Schoeller-Dynatec running the entire inside of the jeans, which of course greatly increases the price. The Rokker Red Selvage jeans full interior protective panels did keep my legs warmer than the Drayko Drift jeans limited lining (panels) during cold weather riding.

Both jeans were about the same when riding in hot weather and they do breath a bit. They are hotter than regular jeans of course but totally bearable.

Video-How to Replace & Install a Shifter Lever Shaft Seal on a Harley-Davidson

Video-In this completely free DIY video we show you how to remove and replace a shifter lever shaft seal on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. It doesn't really matter the year or model of Harley, as this seal and setup has been used for a very long time.

This shift lever seal can go bad and start leaking oil. To get to it, you'll need to remove your entire primary drive.

Yup, we'll show you how to remove your entire Harley-Davidson primary drive, remove the shifter lever shaft seal, and then replace it. Then we show you how to put the entire primary back on. We'll also show you some tips and tricks along the way.

Note: You'll need a replacement shifter lever shaft seal and appropriate primary gaskets and seals (shown in the video so check it out). You'll also need appropriate fluids to refill your primary drive.

Save yourself a ton of money by not having to take your Harley to the dealership to have these types of projects done. You can do this right in your very own shop or garage and right on the kickstand. Plus, have the absolute satisfaction of wrenching on your own Harley!

Video-Cortech Vice Waterproof Motorcycle Riding Shoes-Test & Review

Video-Many of you Bikaholics out there wear the traditional motorcycle riding boots and I did for many years. That's until I discovered the world of motorcycle riding shoes. There's nothing wrong if you want to continue to wear your bulky, hot, and heavy motorcycle boots.

I am a progressive biker and not afraid to break away from traditional Harley-style cruiser boots. There are and array of motorcycle riding shoes out there and I plan on testing many over time. Many of them offer more protection than boots, are lighter, breath better, and in this case waterproof. I like riding shoes, because I can ride with them and then get off and have some of the comforts of a sneaker while walking around. I love the style too.

In this video, I review the Cortech Vice Waterproof (WP) Ridings Shoes. These have a great look, offer great protection, are cooler than boots, and waterproof! I tested these shoes for over 8,000 miles of riding and in rain, shine, hot temps, and cold temps.

The shoes are great while riding in the rain and kept my feet very dry! They are stiff at first while walking around, but after a couple days they break right in. In very hot weather (105 deg Fehrenheit) they are cooler than traditional boots, but your feet will still be warm. In colder temps (30 deg Fahrenheit) the shoes kept my feet pretty warm and blocked wind well.

You can expect American sizing on the Vice Riding Shoes. I ordered the same size as all my shoes and they fit great.

Video-Boom! Audio Bluetooth Headset Does Not Work With Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System?

Let me be VERY clear……..No, there is absolutely no wireless Bluetooth headset that will pair “directly” with the Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. It doesn't matter if you have a 2014 or a newer 2017 Harley with the Boom Box as it is the same exact version of the Infotainment system and no changes in hardware have been made by Harman Kardon, maker of the Boom! Box.

Harley-Davidson came out with the Boom! Audio 20S Bluetooth Helmet Headset and no it does not pair with the Boom! Box Infotainment System. Harley-Davidson took the popular Sena 20s Bluetooth Headset, stamped their famous HD logo on it, and jacked the price up. There is nothing extra special about this headset.

The “Boom! Audio” line of Harley products really has nothing to do directly with the “Boom! Box Infotainment System”. This new wireless Bluetooth headset is a prime example of this. It is fair to say that Harley owners draw a fair conclusion when Harley puts out a “Boom! Audio” product and that it would seemingly integrate with the “Boom! Box”. That clearly isn't the case and Harley has confused a ton of their customers.

No Headset Profile (HSP) in the Boom! Box

The Boom! Box was never designed to have a wireless Bluetooth headset pair directly with it. It was not made with an HSP, headset profile. It was made with an HFP, hands-free profile, which is why your smartphone will pair with the Boom! Box directly, but not a headset.

In Harley's defense to having no headset profile, Honda did the same thing with their Goldwing line. Goldwing owners are having the same sort of issues and having to do workarounds. The Goldwing has a 5-pin DIN communications port instead of a 7-pin like the Harley.
