Harley Davidson and Harman Kardon just released Boom!™ Box software update version 1.21.0.4 on March 27, 2017. This comes after software update versions 1.20.3 that was released in January 2017. We have received many inquiries from bikers asking if they should update to this latest version. It is always a good idea to wait and see if an update fixes more than it breaks and let me have some time to test things.

Note: This particular update if for the Boom Box 4.3 Standard, 6.5T Premium, and the CVO 6.5GT systems. I give the go ahead to update to this new Boom Box software update version, 1.21.0.4.

I installed and tested this update for you. As usual, don't expect any miracles and that suddenly all things will be fixed for ever user. They still have a long way to go to get rid of all the problems that persist with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. We are all skeptical that they'll ever get the Boom Box working perfectly at this point.

FAQ:

Question: If I get behind on updating my Boom Box software, will I have to go back and install each past update I missed?

Answer: No, you do not have to update incrementally. If you get behind, just grab the latest software update here and install it. It will update everything you need including past updates. There is no access to the older updates from the Harley website anyways.

• Unintentional exit from user off mode due to media playing

• Screen pop-ups not clearing after Bluetooth pairing

• Blank screen occurrence when using navigation and requesting weather information

Revzilla-Motorcycle Products-Where Riders Gear Up Daily-We Got Mail-VLOG-45

They sent us a Bassani Road Rage 2-Into-1 Exhaust System For Victory 2010-2017. The pipes came with Bassani End Caps For 4″ Quick Change Series. Revzilla also sent me three pairs of protective riding shoes! I'm super stoked to review these shoes & have reviewed others. These shoes often times offer more protection than boots and are more comfortable for off the bike activities.

Additionally, Revzilla sent me some progressive protective riding gear. This gear is very wearable and offers some great protection without sacrificing looks. It can function off the bike as well as on the bike. That's what I really like about this progressive protective riding gear. It looks great and offers more protection than most of the standard cruiser gear you see riders wearing.

I am a fan of protective and stylish riding jeans for the same reasons I mentioned above. I have already reviewed several riding jeans and my mission continues here. I was sent Rokker Original Jeans. They are constructed of heavy duty 13oz medium blue, stonewashed denim with an internal layer of 100% Schoeller-Dynatec fabric for extreme abrasion resistance. These should be a great addition to my collection of protective riding jeans and I can't wait to ride with them.

Last, Revzilla sent us a pair of Roland Sands Tracker Grips for Harley-Davidson with fly-by-wire. We have found Roland Sands products to be of great quality. We are going to put these grips on our 2016 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider S. We recently did an install of 12″ MX T-bars handlebars and filimed it. These grips will make a great addition to the look and feel of the bike.

Video-Motovlog GoPro Hero 5 Black-Audio Microphone Problem-Clicking & Popping-How To Fix-VLOG 44

Vlog-We use a ton of different video and audio gear here at Law Abiding Biker Media, Inc. We use GoPro action cameras in different situations. I definitely use GoPro cameras when I am filming my Motovlogs on my Harley-Davidson. Make sure you check out my complete Motovlogging Tutorial Video along with the equipment I use.

I recently upgraded my GoPro Hero 4 Silver cameras to the newer GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras. Make sure to check out my video on the GoPro Hero 4 Recall-Audio Thumping, Helicopter, Popping Sounds-Know Before You Buy.

For many years I used the Sony ECMCS3 Clip style Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone to gather my audio while Motovlogging and it worked great. I ran this microphone to the inside of my Schuberth Helmet. When I got my GoPro Hero 5 Black, I intended to use the same trusted lavalier microphone. Of course, the first thing is that you'll need is a 3.5mm Mic Adapter USB-C power and data extension with 90 Degree connector for the GoPro Hero 5 Black.

When I did some Motovlog testing with my new GoPro Hero 5 Black, I got back home afterward and viewed the video files. There was an annoying and random popping or clicking sound in the audio. I spent a day checking connections and camera settings to try and get rid of it. I did note that it only happened at higher speeds, such as on the freeway. I absolutely could not get rid of the popping/clicking sounds in the audio.

So, I changed to a different lavalier microphone as a last test. Yes, that was the problem I learned through my testing. I switched to my Giant Squid Audio Lab Omnidirectional Mono Lavalier Microphone. This completely got rid of all the popping and clicking sounds in the audio. The audio was no super clean and this is a great sounding mic with the GoPro Hero 5 Black.

My speculation is that the GoPro Hero 5 black is having problems processing the Sony ECMCS3 lavalier mic as it is “stereo”. The Giant Squick lavalier mic is “mono”, which I believe is why it works without the clicking/popping sounds. It may be an audio peaking/processing issue, as it was only happening at higher speeds. This may be because of the extra audio input from the louder motorcycle engine and higher winds inputting into the lavalier mic and into the GoPro Hero 5 Black. Again, this is only my personal analysis of the audio issues.

Suggestion:

I would also suggest you go into your audio settings on your GoPro Hero 5 and set it to manual mode. Then select “stereo only”. If you leave it in audio auto mode, it is trying to switch between “wind” and “stereo only” and this will also likely cause you audio issues.

Again, I spent an entire day trying to resolve this GoPro Hero 5 audio popping/clicking issue, so I hope this video and article will help other Motovloggers out there.

Many of you know, HD pulled 1.20.2 shortly after release as some bikers were having problems. It's all fixed in 1.20.3 now, we hope.

VLOG-41-Harley Dyna Low Rider S Westcoast T-Bar Handlebars Install Project

We are installing 12″ Westcoast MX T-bars on a 2016 Harley Dyna Low Rider S. We have the bike on the lift in the Law Abiding Biker™ Garage. Lurch and I broke the Harley down this weekend and filmed it as usual.

There is not much information out right now in catalogs and online on the Dyna Low Rider S, as it was a special production bike. So, we broke it down and measured the stock clutch cable and front upper brake line. We figured out how much over stock length we'd need to go to accommodate these 12″ T-bars.

Armed with proper cable/line lengths, we ordered up what we'd need and had the shipping expedited, so we can put the bike back together next weekend. Video-Boom! Audio Bluetooth Headset Does Not Work With Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System?

Let me be VERY clear……..No, there is absolutely no wireless Bluetooth headset that will pair “directly” with the Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. It doesn't matter if you have a 2014 or a newer 2017 Harley with the Boom Box as it is the same exact version of the Infotainment system and no changes in hardware have been made by Harman Kardon, maker of the Boom! Box.

Harley-Davidson came out with the Boom! Audio 20S Bluetooth Helmet Headset and no it does not pair with the Boom! Box Infotainment System. Harley-Davidson took the popular Sena 20s Bluetooth Headset, stamped their famous HD logo on it, and jacked the price up. There is nothing extra special about this headset.

The “Boom! Audio” line of Harley products really has nothing to do directly with the “Boom! Box Infotainment System”. This new wireless Bluetooth headset is a prime example of this. It is fair to say that Harley owners draw a fair conclusion when Harley puts out a “Boom! Audio” product and that it would seemingly integrate with the “Boom! Box”. That clearly isn't the case and Harley has confused a ton of their customers.

No Headset Profile (HSP) in the Boom! Box

The Boom! Box was never designed to have a wireless Bluetooth headset pair directly with it. It was not made with an HSP, headset profile. It was made with an HFP, hands-free profile, which is why your smartphone will pair with the Boom! Box directly, but not a headset.

In Harley's defense to having no headset profile, Honda did the same thing with their Goldwing line. Goldwing owners are having the same sort of issues and having to do workarounds. The Goldwing has a 5-pin DIN communications port instead of a 7-pin like the Harley.
